Abbie Dixon
Working from her home studio just outside Belfast Abbie has been designing and making jewellery for over 15 years. After originally studying graphic design at Belfast’s University of Ulster she became more interested in working with materials. Metal and glass were of particular interest and she was always in the library studying things that had nothing to do with graphic design. She has completed various courses in silversmithing techniques but is mostly self-taught.
All her jewellery pieces begin with a hand-sculpted master model. She loves making models and uses a variety of techniques to achieve the shapes and textures she desires. The lost-wax process is used to cast the pieces in silver. Most are then set with various gemstones, and may also be black oxidised or 18ct gold plated.
